Groundbreaking of GE Capital Fleet Services' new customer experience and learning center that will showcase GE's comprehensive portfolio of electric vehicle deployment solutions and help GE commercial customers evaluate EVs and other alternative fuel vehicles for their fleets. Opening in spring of 2012.
FOX 9 News, Minneapolis, spoke with Deb Frodl, chief strategy officer with GE, about the latest electric vehicles and how they can change the market.
Electric vehicles sound great in theory, but how will they fit into my life? The infrastructure that supports EV's is already being built. We'll show you where we are today, and what's coming very soon. And then we'll take it higher.

Hi I’m Deb Frodl and I’m the Chief Strategy Officer for GE’s Fleet Services business. We help large and small companies around the world manage their car and truck fleets through financing and management services.
Q: Why is there a growing interest in Electric Vehicles?
A: The growing interest in EVs among our fleet customers comes from their need to address green and sustainability goals across their organization. They see EVs playing a larger role in helping them meet these goals and reducing the operating costs of their fleets.
Q: Tell us about GE's Fleet Electrification Strategy?
A: Few months back, GE announced the purchase of 25,000 electric vehicles by 2015 for its own fleet and fleet services customers - the largest-ever single electric vehicle purchase commitment. The electric vehicle conversion and deployment for this strategy will be managed by our Fleet Services business. We believe businesses can play a leadership role in accelerating the adoption curve and driving scale for electric vehicles, and that’s what we’re trying to do.
Q: What makes GE unique in this space?
A: GE can offer a full suite of solutions – from leasing and vehicle management services, to charging infrastructure and energy management – which touch every part of the electric vehicle infrastructure. We are continuously working with strategic partners to leverage their expertise in educating our customers and developing a wing-to-wing solution for the fleet industry.
Q: How is GE innovating for its customers?
A: Our strategic consultants are already working on Total Cost of Ownership models and fleet electrification plans for many of our fleet customers. We’re also opening an Electric Vehicle User Experience Center later this year in Minneapolis so customers, industry partners, and researchers can learn about and test a variety of electric cars, trucks and technologies in one location. Our goal is to anticipate the needs of our customers, educate them on the technologies, and a build strategy that will make them EV ready.
